Every Breath Bernanke Takes

This is an oldie, but a goodie, and surprisingly current. This video is a spoof of Police's "Every Breath You Take", sung by Glenn Hubbard, Dean of the Columbia Business School, for the CBS Spring 2006 Follies.

I am also watching Bernanke, but without making a song of it, it does not look nice. A central banker is supposed to be independent, and not follow order from the president. Both Bush and Bernanke are panicking.

That is a good one. I am not sure Bernanke is following orders. He is panicking all by himself.

I wish my administrators were so cool...

Glenn Hubbard is not any economist: he ranks #108 on the latest IDEAS ranking of the top economists. I am impressed.

Grow up. This independent Fed thing is "only for the movies". Who are you, or any other economists trying to fool? Did you ever hear of the period of the peg, 1942-46? The Fed is about as independent of the Treasury as Tibet is of Beijing.

I agree that the Fed is not as independent as it should be. Just witness how Greenspan went along with whatever the current president was doing. Other central banks do a much better job at this, say New Zealand, Canada, Switzerland and Germany before the Euro.
